The first question is always: What does it say in the first paragraph? Pay attention to the first word in each of the answer possibilities! The second part of the answer may be right, but the first part does too! For example, it needs to say "Why" the latter part is true.

- In "what do we learn in paragraph..." questions, turning the answers into questions and looking for the answer

 

- Read the question first and then read the relevant passage in the text

 

- Pay special attention to the "wh word" and make sure the answer matches it

 

- When you see an unknown word:

* Does it have a capital letter because it's a name?

* Is there a similar word in your native language that makes sense in the sentence?

* Do you know other words in the word family?

* Is the word explained later?

* Understanding from context

 

- If there are long/difficult names (people, places, etc.), just read the first letter (i.e. Dr. H)

 

- Meaning of punctuation

 

- Connectors show relationship between ideas

Try the best to understand the title - understand what you know (and what you don't know). USE THE PICTURE!

Locating quotes in the middle of sentences - this helps you know who spoke, and what the main idea of the paragraph is.
