To find a story's theme, analyze the plot, characters, dialogue, setting, and symbols to identify the central idea or message the author conveys.

A theme is the main idea or message of a story. It's the author's opinion or perspective on the story's subject. Themes are often universal ideas about life, society, or human nature.

1. Two facts about the theme or life lesson of a story:

• A theme is the underlying message or idea that the author wants to convey through the story.

• Themes can be universal, relating to different people, times, and places.

An example of the theme of a story is "Honesty is the best policy" as seen in The Boy Who Cried Wolf. In this story, a shepherd boy repeatedly lies about a wolf attacking his flock, and when a wolf finally does appear, no one believes him. This teaches the lesson that honesty is crucial, as lying can lead to no one trusting you when it really matters.
