Media Arts

Incorporating Media Arts into the MakerSpace - video editing, GreenScreen, podcasting, and more!

Consider the tools. What are you building and what tools will you need to achieve that?

This layout demonstrates a space that has both a fixed and a mobile Makerspace. Best of both worlds?

Communication needs:

Who would you need to communicate with in order to bring your Makerspace to life? Think: admin, staff, the PAC, possible community members for donations?

Professional skill development

Join us in the LLC for a workshop on Makerspaces and how they benefit student learning

Questions to guide your process:

1. What are your budget constraints?

2. How will the Makerspace be accessed?

3. Which curricular goals will be explored?

4. How will the Design Thinking Process be supported?

Physical Layout Considerations:

* A cart to be pushed into classrooms?

* A converted shipping container?

* A bus or truck?

* Storage when not in use?

* Organization of materials?

* Safety considerations?

The LLC will develop a task force to facilitate the maintenance and upkeep of the mobile or pop-up Makerspace. The TL will serve as the school expert in Makerspace utility and the design thinking process, and will post weekly or monthly design challenges to keep learning fresh and exciting.

Curriculum Drivers to Consider:

Look at the ADST Curriculum, and then be sure to consider the grade-specific curricular goals of the subject areas your Makerspace will address (Science, Math, Art, etc.).

Design a mobile, or pop-up, Makerspace that fits your school library budget, facilitates students using the design thinking process, and can be easily accessed outside of the LLC. Be sure to include a plan for tracking and replacing materials as they are used, as well as a booking schedule so that teachers can easily reserve the Makerspace as needed.
