It started because of reminding someone and want them can come back in the world one day on Halloween.

It must be something with religion

I think it started as a part of the day of the death

As I know it was a religious holiday. People masked as demons so demons can't harm people.

To scare one another

Or related to religion

Since it is a pagan tradition.. maybe people wanted somehow to scare or get rid of ghosts and bad spirits by doing things to scare them .. (?)
