the lewis gun

The Lewis Gun was an American-designed light machine gun that was air-cooled and lightweight, developed in 1911 by Isaac Newton Lewis. It is most famously known for its pan magazine mounted on top and for service with British forces in World War I and II. Though produced in America, it was originally rejected by the U.S. military and became legendary for its reliability and a certain "rattlesnake" sound it made in action.
