Li Shoubai is an artist from Shanghai. He likes to use shanghai style paper art to talk about traditional shanghai tales. He said “Shikumen is a sketch of the east”
What can represent Shanghai? Some people say the Bund some say Lujiazui, but Li Shoubai thinks Shikumen does.
Previously 6.5 out of 10 Shanghaiese people lived in Shikumen. Of these 6.5 people, Li Shoubai is one.
When it’s time to work he can always recall life from back then. Kids all playing, Adults greeting eachother, and neighbors all living together very close to one another.
He said to capture that sort of shanghai lifestyle is already hard. He wants to use papercraft to give everyone another chance to see these stories of Shanghai.
Li Shoubai’s daughter has followed in the craft, and now has started papercraft . She talks to people about the art. Not only at school, but also during trips abroad she brings the art with her to give people outside of china a view of these stories.
