The best ESP teacher is the one who is able to identify their learner's needs and interests. It should possess the ability to defy their limits of curiosity and to awake learner's passion for the language and it's connection with a foreign language.

Angela Diaz Franco

Hello! I think the best ESP teacher is the one who is able to take risks and help students to achieve their goals and objectives. An ESP teacher should be able to teach according to the students´context and needs.

Hello, everybody!

In my opinion the best ESP teacher is the one who guides correctly to the students. Obviously, communication is the main implement to start working in the classroom.

Cheers!

Hi classmates! from my point of view, a good ESP teacher is the one who is creative, flexible, imaginative and first of all who plans the lesson according to the students´needs.

Noelia Follonier

From my point of view the best ESP teacher must be innovative, thoughtful and above all too much caring so that he can motivate and inspire ESP learners to pursue their academic courses diligently and to outperform in their professional careers. ESP teachers need to have a strong will in teaching those who are not majoring English as their subject.

As ESP takes time to learn, then only an English teacher with some time on a proffesional area might become a good ESP teacher. this i because ESP takes time to develop and expertise on a subject too. once a teacher is satified with an area, she becomes an adequate tool to teach others.

SILVIA MURUA

I think that the best ESP teacher is someone who designs lesson plans according to the students' needs.

This,a good teacher is eager to learn together with the students.

Hello folks!

To my knowledge, the ESP teacher should be humble enough so as to recognize his/her knowledge is limited regarding the specific area to be taught. By having this honest attitude, it will be easier to establish a positive relationship with the learners. Moreover, it will allow teachers to reflect upon and improve their teaching strategies.

Hello!

I think the best ESP teacher is one who pays close attention to the needs of learners. Therefore, an ESP teacher should act as a simultaneous teacher and counselor. The teacher should go beyond classroom settings, cooperating and collaborating with content teachers.

Hello everyone!

In my opinion The best ESP teacher is the one who is able to listen his/her students in order to understand and focus on their students' needs and their improvements, te teacher should be creative in order to design the approprite material to each group of student and openminded to listen different opinion, in this kind of group the teacher is not the primary knower so in some cases he/she need to listens his/her students opinions and corrections.

Hello!

An ESP teacher is the one who has to be sensitive to cultural differences, i.e. that the teacher has to teach according to the students' contexts. The teacher needs to assess the effectiveness of the teaching material used on the course. So, I think that it is not the same to teach students who live in the city rather than to teach students who are from the countryside, because the students' backgrounds are different.

After reading the material I can say that the best ESP teacher is the person who can identify his/her students' needs, wants and lacks. Also, he/she should be able to research and design material to provide his/her students with the necessary skills for the specific situations they will face in real life.

I think the best ESP teacher is the one that takes risks and leaves the confort zone so as to help students attain their goals and objectives. A flexible teacher ready to deal with whatever comes up unexpectedly in the classroom.

Hi!

In my view, the best ESP teacher is someone who successfully addresses the student’s needs. Both EFL teachers and L1 proficients in their subject areas have characteristics that help to support the learning and teaching process. It’s important to be curious, creative and work collaboratively so as to develop teaching methodologies, strategies and materials that best fulfil the learner’s needs, interests and objectives.

Cheers,

Iván

Hi everyone! I'm Alejandra Sobrado, from Olavarria, Buenos Aires.

After listening to Silvana Richardson's session, I could say that qualifications, expertise and professional teaching experience are much more important than the place where we were born. However, we have to keep on working on (and spreading) this idea, since there is lot of discrimination towards non-native teachers, and in Richardson's words "it is a cycle that needs breaking", when aiming at valuable English lessons.

Being a teacher goes beyond knowing the target language from birth. It requires training, studying, researching, expertising, not just speaking!

Who is the best ESP teacher?
